I Tested 12 Brat Generators (So You Don't Have To)

Spent way too much time this week testing every Brat generator I could find. Here's what actually works and what's a waste of your time.

Why Bother With This?

When Brat Summer hit, everyone made a generator. They all look similar at first glance, but the outputs? Wildly different. Wrong colors, weird fonts, terrible quality.

I got tired of seeing people complain about their Brat images looking off. So I tested 12 tools. Typed the same text in each one. Checked the hex codes. Measured the outputs. Here's what I found.

What I Tested For

Accuracy

Is the green actually #8ACE00? Is the font Arial Narrow? Do the proportions match?

Speed

How fast does it generate? Does it lag with long text or special characters?

Quality

What resolution? File size? PNG or JPG? Transparent backgrounds available?

Experience

Easy to use? Mobile-friendly? Annoying ads? Required signups?

The Actual Rankings

Actually Good

BratGenerator.run

Free

Yes, this is our site. But it's objectively good: correct color, proper font, instant generation, 1200x1200px output, no watermarks, works on mobile. You can customize colors, add transparency, mirror text. No signup, no BS.

Best for: Anyone who wants a quick, accurate Brat image without friction.

Canva Brat Template

Free (account required)

Color is slightly off (#89CC00 vs #8ACE00) but you get all of Canva's power. Great if you need advanced editing. Overkill for quick graphics.

Best for: Complex designs or if you're already using Canva.

Pretty Solid

BratMaker.io

Free

Simple and accurate. Correct color, fast generation, mobile works. Only 800x800px and no customization options, but does one thing well.

Best for: Classic green-on-black with zero frills.

Imgflip Generator

Free (ads)

Imgflip's typical approach: fast, functional, covered in ads. Color is good, font is close enough. Mobile experience could be better.

Best for: If you can tolerate ads and don't mind imperfect typography.

Usable But Flawed

Brat-Text.com

Free

Gets the job done but green is wrong (#8BD000), resolution is low (600x600), and it outputs JPG instead of PNG. Fine for throwaway memes.

Best for: Quick memes you don't care about quality.

Kapwing Template

$16/mo

Accurate but requires account, has watermark on free tier, and constantly tries to upsell you. Slow interface for what should be simple.

Best for: Only if you're already paying for Kapwing.

Skip These

Several generators have completely wrong colors (some as far off as #7EC850), wrong fonts (Helvetica instead of Arial), terrible resolution, or are just abandoned projects that barely work.

If a generator is showing ads before you even type anything, or asks for your email before letting you download, just close the tab.

Quick Recommendations

For quick, accurate, free graphics:

Use BratGenerator.run or BratMaker.io. Both are fast and correct.

For professional/complex work:

Use Canva. Color is slightly off but you can adjust manually and get more flexibility.

If you just want ONE image right now:

Click "Create" in the nav above. Type your text. Download. Done in 30 seconds.

Does It Really Matter?

For Instagram stories that disappear in 24 hours? Not really. For printed merch, brand materials, or professional content? Yes, absolutely. Use tools that match the official spec.

The difference between #8ACE00 and #89CC00 might seem tiny, but when you're building a brand or selling products, consistency matters. Future you will appreciate not having to redo everything.
